What a wonderful evening
Thank you to all our families who came to celebrate Matariki on Thursday Evening, 9th July from 5.45pm – 6.45pm.
Matariki is a special time for remembrance; it’s a time to celebrate the present; it’s a time to look to the future.
The 2026 theme focuses on inclusion and encouraging all people to celebrate Matariki together as one.
Matariki hunga nui – Matariki, the gatherer of people
As we celebrate Matariki, we reflect on gratitude, connection, and coming together to learn and grow.
At the Vines, tamariki explored the meanings of Tupu-ā-nuku and Tupu-ā-rangi, the stars that remind us to value food from the earth and from above.
We harvested potatoes from our garden, with children excitedly digging them from the soil. They helped wash the potatoes and then with the cooking.
We shared the cooked potatoes, celebrating the journey from garden to table and giving thanks for the gifts of the whenua. This hands-on experience helped tamariki learn where food comes from, the importance of caring for the environment, and the joy of sharing kai as a community.
It’s the holidays
Please let us know if your child(ren) will be attending The Vines during the July holidays.
Many of our staff are parents too, so knowing attendance numbers helps us plan staffing and allows staff to take time off where possible.
