The power of play at the Vines

Our tamariki have been showing interest in dramatic play over the past couple of weeks.

You can read more about connecting through play, how it helps children develop a deeper sense of connection and purpose in our blogs.

We’ve noticed that they enjoy playing in the kitchen area and helping our kaiako out with odd jobs. Extending this further, we have set up a food market and a flower shop outside. The tamariki noticed the flower shop in the corner and slowly went in to explore the different types of flowers, such as the roses and sunflowers that were displayed inside. Some tamariki were interested in the food market and examined the food in the baskets. The use of paper to create fake money that the tamariki can use to pay with was such a success, they thoroughly enjoyed it.

The tamariki seemed to have fun, looking at their excitement and when playing alongside others. We will continue our dramatic play ideas and see how far we can go.
